We are all called to be witnesses; to show forth a testimony that is within. There are witnesses in heaven and on earth.

“Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence. [37] Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice. [38] Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all. (John 18:36-38)”

Jesus while on earth witnessed a good report before Pilate. From His birth till the time He ascended heaven in the presence of His disciples, His life was governed by certain judgements.

“A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies. (Proverbs 14:5)”

There are two kinds of witnesses; there is the faithful/true witness that speaks truth and there is a false witness that utters lies.

Anything outside of Christ is a lie. For instance, there are those who say that there are other ways to God; this is a lie.

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. (John 14:6)”

Jesus is not saying He is a truth, a way or a life, He is saying He is the way, the truth and the life. This means that Jesus is the faithful and true witness who bears witness to the truth. Jesus also said that those who were of the truth will hear His voice. Our goal is thus to be those who are of the truth. We are called to carry the truth within us so we can bear witness to the world.

Satan’s lie to man in Eden was that God is not true and trustworthy. Man bought this lie of Satan. Hence it will only take the mercy of God for truth to come to man, turn him and for him to walk in the truth.

Jesus came to bear witness of the Truth. Truth is substance from God, it is what God is made up of.  Truth comes from one who does not fail.

“Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin (John 8:34).”

Jesus saying “verily verily” in the scripture above, is the same as Him saying truly truly. Jesus never speaks lies, everything that comes from Him is truth and there is nothing that He did that wasn’t significant.

“And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. [36] the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. [37] I know that ye are Abraham's seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.”  (John 8:35-37)

The Father and the Holy Ghost bore witness of Jesus, yet the Pharisees denied the person of Jesus. This was because the seed of lie was deep rooted within them.

“The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true.[14] Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go. [15] Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man. [16] And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me  (John 8:13-16).”
“For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse… (Romans 1:20).”

The Scribes and Pharisees hardened their hearts towards the truth hence they could not know it. Although they were the religious rulers, yet they did not know the truth.

“Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it (John 8:44).”

The father of lies is in contrast to Jesus who spoke the truth. The reason men cannot see or hear the truth is because they have been blinded by lies.

The world and the systems of the world are built upon lies. There are many lies that we have hitherto believed. For instance, there are those who doubt the existence of God; they doubt that God is who He says He is and that Jesus came as the Son of God.

Jesus called Himself the son of man because He represents what man ought to be on the earth.

“And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not. [46] Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me? [47] He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God (John 8:45-47).”

The only way to the truth is through Jesus Christ. Hence all that we are hearing is to the end that we might become witnesses in the world. These are things which must be established within us, without which we cannot become witnesses.

This is why we must keep hearing, but much more we must allow all that we are hearing to bear fruit within us. We must become truth to become witnesses of it.

Round up: Pastor Thompson Ehima

In John 2:21, Jesus said “I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth (1 John 2:21).”

Jesus spoke of Himself as being the way, the truth and the life. No lie is of the truth. What makes a faithful witness is that there is no lie in him. The devil is a liar because he abides not in the truth.

There are lies that men have held on to as single, married or as family. Without truth we will not be able to bear witness to the true essence of this state. When there is still lie in us we will be unable to capture all that the Father sees in these estates.

God wants to get rid of every lie in us so that we can truly give expression to singlehood, married and family life.
